Outdwell continues the swagger through Act 3 : third degree

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Kuala Lumpur which took place last week, saw a slew of talented Malaysian designers making heads turn with their sleek creations.

No exception to the list, was rising streetwear brand Outdwell which rose to popularity just a few years ago.

Known for its sophisticated cuts and silhouettes on menswear, Outdwell has been gaining steady attention from local fashion connoisseurs. Oscar Lee, the designer and creator of the label named this third collection Act 3 : Third Degree.

“The reason why it is called Act 3 : Third Degree is because I was actually inspired by police brutality and riots that have been taking place around the world. I expressed them in my designs through detailing, cutting, pockets and silhouettes,” expressed the young and talented designer.

Being a huge fan of hiphop, Oscar admits that his designs are very heavily influenced by hiphop fashion, music, emcees and street art graffiti.

“It is also very important to me that the pieces are wearable streetwear making them easy to match. Hence performing artistes can look stylish wearing them while performing and  even when walking on the street. They may seem simple but the hints of detailing make them stand out,” added Lee.

“I also had one female model in my show as I wanted to make a statement that women can wear Outdwell too. Although I have been focusing on menswear since I started 2 years ago, I also want to show that ladies can pull off menswear as well.

According to Lee, he also performed in a music video called Third Degree which sings about the collection where he performs with Fhan a.k.a Sonic Lobby. The intention of the music video was purely to promote the fashion show through music. The video can be viewed here.

Here, we share some glimpses on the night of Outdwell’s big show at the recent Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week KL which took place at Zepp KL.
