It takes a village to raise a child and everyone in the community plays their significant roles in nurturing children. This year, Damansara Performing Arts Center (DPAC) is doing just that by getting kids interested in the arts via their upcoming Damansara Children Arts Festival. Happening from Feb 29 until Mar 3, 2024, this festival is creatively designed for children with the opportunity to spend time in the theatre and enjoy specially-designed art performances, all while exploring the limitless possibilities of art.

I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside.

The festival will kick off with a two-day children art camp entitled Sail your dreamboat!” (Fun. Inspiration. Art). This camp is designed for 10-13-year-olds who want to explore their dreams and the world around them. This bilingual (English & Chinese) camp offers a unique opportunity to dive into various themes such as exploring world issues, thoughts on dreams and careers. It will be run by Afton Lim and Chan Sue Pei from the A.R.T. Institution; this two-day art camp costs RM550 and tickets can be bought from the festival co-organizer, CloudJoi.

Family Fun Galore, Endless Joy at the Festival

After the pandemic, there is a steady rise in art classes’ enrollment as parents started to realize the importance of creative outlets for children. With this in mind, the festival curated various art activities both for children as well as their parents in order to nurture family connections.

Activities such as a sachet-making workshop and a traditional Chinese medicine workshop are available, where children can create personalized sachets, and parents can learn acupressure points which are good for growth and muscle strengthening. To promote sensory and creative development, there is also Messy Play which encourages children to explore and play with various materials.

Nature is also important for kids growing up and with that, there is also Farm in the City which allows children to reconnect with nature and learn about flora and fauna, immersing themselves in the beauty of our mother nature. Workshops, courses and entrance tickets are also available at a reduced rate for those who are interested in delving further into the experience after the festival!

The Breathtaking Performances

Of course, an art festival would not be complete without performances and this time, co-organizer CloudJoi will be presenting eight theatre performances featuring the Bottle Man Magic Troupe from Taiwan, the Kuala Lumpur Shakespeare Company who promotes drama education, renowned Penang pianist Dr. Esther Shin, the well-loved Johor Bahru Children’s Arts Society, as well as the famous Dance Space dance academy.

Other than that, there is also the Children’s Market starting from Mar 2 where the festival is open to public. Meanwhile, at the Black Box Theatre, Digital Exhibition will be on display; this is also where the Storybook Reading at the White Sand Café takes place at 1PM and 4PM on both days.

From vibrant stage productions to hands-on workshops, this festival is a celebration of creativity, education, and cultural enrichment. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to inspire and entertain your little ones! Tickets for all programs can be found at the CloudJoi platform.

More info about the festival can also be found on DPAC’s website. The festival is also supported by Persatuan Kebudyaan dan Kesenian Damansara, Health Lane Pharmacy and leading tea art center, Purple Cane.
