DISITU
Dataran urban yang meraikan makanan, gerai-gerai dan komuniti, RexKL merupakan sebuah lokasi hip bagi anak-anak muda meluangkan masa bersama rakan-rakan dalam persekitaran penuh warisan kesenian dan kebudayaan. Dahulunya dikenali sebagai Panggung Rex, RexKL kini ialah salah satu lokasi KLWKND yang menampilkan pelbagai program tarikan umum:
ART OF FILM – FEATURE

Tayangan filem cereka prolifik bertajuk Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow… and Tomorrow oleh Pengarah Amir Muhammad. Filem ini diadaptasi oleh pengarahnya sebagai sebuah filem sambungan berinspirasikan filem-filem dari tahun 1970-an hingga awal 1980-an oleh Allahyarham Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Jins Shamsudin yang tajuk-tajuknya mempunyai perkataan “Esok” iaitu: Menanti Hari Esok (1977), Tiada Esok Bagimu (1980), Esok Masih Ada (1980) And Esok Untuk Siapa (1982). Filem-filem ini berkonsepkan tema melodrama dengan elemen-elemen seram dan romantic. Filem arahan Amir Muhammad ini akan meneroka tema perkauman, peranan jantina, perkampungan dan bandar serta bandaraya Kuala Lumpur.

Filem pendek juga tidak dilupakan! KLWKND akan menayangkan tayangan filem pendek animasi Batik Girl dan The Dalang’s Tale hasil karya Irwan Junaidy (The R&D Studio). Batik Girl telah ditayangkan di lebih 20 festival filem antarabangsa sejak pelancarannya mengisahkan tentang tema zaman kanak-kanak, tragedy dan Batik manakala The Dalang’s Tale mengisahkan tentang keganasan rumah tangga. Tayangan akan disusuli dengan perbincangan ringkas serta sesi soal jawab bersama Irwan Junaidy.

THE LONG TABLE: FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Menawarkan sajian dari komuniti asing di Kuala Lumpur. Dikurasi sebagai platform untuk menghargai usaha warga asing yang tidak asing lagi di negara kita, The Long Table dengan kerjasama RexKL bakal menyajikan sajian-sajian dari Burma, Bangladesh, Pakistan dan lain-lain.

Buku2Books ialah perpustakaan pop-up yang memberi akses kepada khalayak umum akan bahan-bahan bacaan dan futej terpelihara berkaitan Kuala Lumpur dan Malaysia. Bahan-bahan ini bersumberkan arkib-arkib serta simpanan dari seluruh Malaysia dan juga antarabangsa.

As part of KLWKND, we are commissioning and screening a feature film in the form of video essay by prolific Amir Muhammad titled Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow… and Tomorrow. This new video essay will take a long at four movies made from the late 1970s to early 1980s by the late Jins Shamsuddin, all of which had “esok” in their titles: Menanti Hari Esok (1977), Tiada Esok Bagimu (1980), Esok Masih Ada (1980) And Esok Untuk Siapa (1982). All were in the melodrama genre, with elements of thriller and romance. The essay will explore the themes of racial relations, gender roles, urban/rural divide, and KL itself. The screenings will be followed by a short talk and Q&A session by Amir Muhammad.

Short films are not left out! KLWKND will also be screening award-winning animated shorts Batik Girl and The Dalang’s Tale by the very talented Malaysian filmmaker Irwan Junaidy (The R&D Studio). Batik Girl, which has toured over 20 film festivals worldwide since its launch, explores the theme of childhood, tragedy and Batik while The Dalang’s Tale takes a dive into the subject of domestic violence. The screenings will be followed by a short talk and Q&A session by Irwan Junaidy.

The Long Table: Food for Thought serves up mouth-watering food and drinks by the immigrant communities in KL, whose contributions to the development of KL should not be overlooked. Over the decades of service in KL in various labor sectors, the different communities such as Burmese, Bangladeshi, Pakistani and other groups have developed their own distinctive culinary identity. The Long Table is organized in partnership with RexKL.

In partnership with Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Selangor (Selangor State Library), US Library of Congress, The British Library, Imperial War Museum, BookXcess and others, KLWKND presents BUKU2BOOKS!
Featuring the concept of a pop-up digital library, BUKU2BOOKS showcases rarely-seen historical archives such as classical manuscripts, rare press photographs, historical documents and old books of Malaya in the collection of highly-renowned sincluding the US Library of Congress, The British Library and Imperial War Museums that have since been digitized. Come and join us in exploring a curated collection of digitised materials telling the story of Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia amassed from different institutions around the world, accessible through technology!
