COLLAPSE by Gabriel Cheah
Description
Every time our world crumbles, disintegrates and falls into pieces, hope and happiness appear in ways never imagined. Reflect, Reset and Restart.
Contemporary sculpture consists of the artistic practice of sculpture from roughly the 1950s to today, in which three-dimensional objects are created—and intended by the artist—as artwork. It is an art form that allows artists to reflect on societal issues using abstract or figurative representation.
COLLAPSE intends to transport visitors to an alternate, a more calm, post-apocalyptic world. A hopeful new day develops and emerges, shaped by sculptural elements hand-moulded by Gabriel to the emotive pulse of his fingers, as each brushstroke represents balance and harmony. A sea of European crystals filled with positive energy emits happiness, highlighting several vital elements of his art practice: balance, color, continuity, emphasis, proportion, rhythm, repetition, shape, space and texture. Gabriel aims to cement himself as a 'happy artist'.
As an emerging ceramics, crystal and contemporary sculptural artist making waves locally since his debut less than two years ago, Gabriel experiments and plays with his sculptural elements by incorporating them into his wall-mounted canvas artworks.
COLLAPSE is Gabriel Cheah's debut solo exhibition under KolmeGlu Art Collective. KolmeGlu intends to GLU creatives of various art disciplines and art enthusiasts whilst presenting curated, site-specific creative experiences to the masses.
