From the first tea offering & performance we did at The Back Room, followed by a semi hiatus due to the Covid situation, we have gained a lot, in immateriality, though we might have lost some as well, in materiality. There are mixed feelings, but still grateful. Ever since then, our practices whether in art making or living, has evolved.
In other words, how about coming to our exhibition to experience what it is about? How about that?
The exhibition is titled "Still Life".
We relook at the term “still life” as an oxymoron where “still” and “life” are defined as two contradictory meanings rather than an inanimate object from the natural or man-made world in the art context:
Still- unmoving; Life- a phenomenon with constant shifts.
Thus, “Still Life” is an exploration of the state of stillness in the flux of changes, or rather, the movements in the utmost stillness. It is far more than a discourse to us, but a practice and cultivation in daily life for the general well being and balance.
This idea is presented through two components of works: site-specific installations and tearoom performances. The performances will take place at two locations within The Godown: The main hall and the rooftop.
