Man Up
Description
In Malaysia, emerging visual artists are on a journey to redefine their roles and identities, much like men are challenging traditional notions of masculinity. These artists face numerous obstacles, such as financial hardships and limited resources, while striving for recognition in a competitive art scene. This phase of their careers, often filled with uncertainty and self-examination, is rich with potential for innovation and growth. The artists showcased in this exhibit, including Ahmar Annur, Faez Fahmi, Syafiq Hariz, Raden Hisbullah, Loqman Hakim, Nazreen Nor, Rashid Nor, Nadzrin Haziq, Saharudin Ali and Afiq Romi, are part of a broader cultural shift towards more inclusive and dynamic expressions of identity. Their work challenges the status quo and opens new dialogues about creativity and self-definition. This parallel journey between redefining masculinity and artistic identity underscores the transformative power of resilience, community support, and the quest for authenticity. As these artists push the boundaries of their craft, they contribute to a richer and more innovative cultural landscape
