Dendang Suara Serantau presents Malaysian Poems & Art Songs, a vocal concert premiering newly composed Art Songs by young Malaysian composers, inspired through the works of local poetry.

Featuring singers, soprano How Dim Sy, mezzo-soprano Koh Sin Kit, and tenor Haziq Muhyidin, the concert will showcase new Art Song singing compositions by composers Ng Hoong Nie, Adam Dani, Tan Jay Tze, Danish Zainal, April Goh Wan Yew, and Sebastian Ooi – accompanied on the piano by Song Jiying and Yap Pui Yin. Apart from that, the concert will also highlight and perform existing local Art Song compositions that are noteworthy of recognition.

Malaysian Poems & Art Songs implores audiences to discover and unravel upon the musical medium of ‘Art Songs’ – singing and poetry. Through a local Malaysian context, the concert gathers on topics of intercultural dialogue, diversity, and Malaysian artistic expression.

Expect an evening of inspiring solo and ensemble singing in Malay, Chinese, and English, coupled with wondrous piano playing. The concert will embark on a journey of poetry and vocal art discovery.
