Description

Zapin is a genre of Malay dance that was created based on "playing". In Malay Language, it is called "Main". It is commonly known as “Main Zapin" in Malay dance community where the dancers execute the Zapin dance steps within the range of the music. The range of the music is controlled by the "gong", which also means that one set of sequence (satu ragam) is started after the "gong" and it is ended at the same time as the "gong" is hit.

There are many possibilities that can happen within the "gongs". Lead Artist would like to explore the use of the "Chance" method developed by Merce Cunningham in Zapin's ragam. Of each count in the Ragam, after juggling the counts around, it is a wonder or surprise waiting for us to find out.
