Jingju Magic: Love & Bewilderment

World-renowned GuoGuang Opera Company is set to premiere Jingju Magic - Love & Bewilderment in Malaysia with two double bills featuring “Zhuangzi Tests His Wife”, “Lu Wenlong”, “The Death of Zhou Yu” and “Guiying’s Accusation of Wang Kuei at the Temple” at klpac's Pentas 1 in July 2024.
To celebrate their return to KL after nine years, these special excerpts showcase the many magical qualities of Jingju (Peking opera) from its enchanting story based on literary classic like the Romance of the Three Kingdoms to the spellbinding techniques of its performers executing martial arts combat scenes or complex skills such as water sleeves and ghostly movements.
As Taiwan’s premier Peking opera troupe, GuoGuang Opera Company has wowed audiences around the globe for almost three decades. Known for their modern sensibilities and interpretation while adhering to traditional opera conventions, the troupe offers a unique gateway for today’s audiences to experience age-old culture and traditions.
Performed in Mandarin with English & Mandarin surtitles by an impressive cast of 29 actors and musicians, their 3-day KL performance is made possible by the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Malaysia, klpac and National Center for Traditional Arts (Taiwan) with the support of the Ministry of Culture (Taiwan), Advantech Foundation and Pixel World.
