A Matter of Scale and Perspective is the Art Galleries Association Singapore’s first online exhibition, featuring physical artworks presented by 21 member-galleries. The manner in which this virtual experience of artworks has been configured, seeks to be true to our typical engagement with images and visual culture in the online sphere, while embracing its biggest incongruity in relation to real life: the apparent distortion of scale in which even works of colossal size would fit tidily even on a mobile screen.

Now as the restrictions on physical interactions wane down and opportunities for in-person encounters return, would such online presentations fade into obscurity once again? Perhaps our inability to perceive the continuum between physical and digital realms of art experience stem merely from us hankering after the slippery “aura of art”, even in a new age of digital (re)production.
