In conjunction with the 69th Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations, Kuala Lumpur’s design scene is glowing a little brighter. Premier cultural destination eslite Spectrum Kuala Lumpur has partnered with local design platform xOrdinary to present It’s Lit!, an innovative group exhibition celebrating contemporary Malaysian lighting and lifestyle design.

Running from September 9 through October 30, 2026, this showcase transforms the bookstore into a living canvas where literature meets illuminated art. If you are looking to immerse yourself in local creativity this festive season, here are 5 reasons why It’s Lit! should be on your radar:

1. Literature Meets Light in a Unique Space

Rather than confining artworks within white gallery walls, It’s Lit! integrates 40 design creations directly into the reading nooks and bookshelves of eslite Spectrum at The Starhill. Visitors are encouraged to wander through curated literary sections and stumble upon custom light installations, creating an intimate dialogue between space, light, and story.

2. Spotlighting 17 Exceptional Malaysian Designers

The exhibition brings together an exciting lineup of 17 homegrown designers and brands including Alexdrina Chong, Kai Yi Wong, Double R Crafts, Shahril Faisal, CableRod and others pushing the boundaries of functional sculpture and lifestyle products. Highlights from the showcase include:

  • Double R Crafts, presenting the nostalgically charm-filled Tiffin Lamp.
  • Beori x Alexoid Luce, showcasing their minimalist Rest+ & Rest Mini lamps.
  • Alexoid Luce, featuring the striking sculptural piece Disambiguate.
  • Beori x Yong Kian, highlighting heritage through their illuminated Wayang Kulit design.

3. A Launchpad to the Global Stage

Curator & Founder of xOrdinary, Lim Bo Qiang 林柏强

Curated by xOrdinary founder Lim Bo Qiang, the initiative goes beyond display — it serves as an open call for independent Malaysian designers to join a collective ecosystem defining the nation’s avant-garde identity. Proudly supported by the Malaysia International Furniture Fair (MIFF), this showcase serves as a stepping stone toward xOrdinary’s 6th edition at MIFF 2027 (taking place March 1–4, 2027 at MITEC and WTCKL), helping local talents export their vision globally.

4. Two Months of Interactive Public Programming

Supported by technology partner Positive Yield, the two-month showcase offers visitors multiple ways to engage with the creative process. The public can participate in:

  • Guided curator tours led by xOrdinary.
  • Hands-on design workshops.
  • Design talks and intimate artist-sharing sessions with the creators.

5. Fostering Cultural Exchange Between Malaysia and Taiwan
