Japanese Film Festival (JFF) 2024 returns to Malaysia!

The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) 2024 held its press conference on the 27th of September at GSC Mid Valley, offering members of the media, sponsors, and partners an exclusive preview of this year’s festival highlights.

Mr. Tsukamoto Norihisa, Director of The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur, expressed his excitement about the 20th anniversary of the festival, stating, “From a modest beginning in 2004, JFF has grown to become one of the most anticipated platforms for Malaysians to enjoy the best of Japanese cinema. This year also marks the 70th anniversary of one of Japan’s most iconic kaiju movies that defined an entire genre- Godzilla. In conjunction with that, we have prepared a special screening marathon of the original 1954 classic followed by the Academy Awards winner, Godzilla Minus One as part of the festival.”

During the Q&A session, Mr. Tsukamoto addressed questions about the festival’s highlights, emphasizing the cultural significance of Godzilla Minus One and the broader selection of films representing various genres. He also shared the festival’s goals for this year, aiming to surpass last year’s attendance and deepen the cultural exchange between Japan and Malaysia through the power of cinema.

Following the Q&A, a photo session was held with all the Sponsors, Partners, and Official Media Partners representatives. The event concluded with the premiere screening of A Samurai in Time, an action-comedy film recently released in Japan on 17th August, which will be part of the JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL 2024 lineup, showing at selected GSC cinemas from September 12th.

The Japanese Film Festival 2024 will take place at GSC cinemas across Klang Valley (GSC Mid Valley and GSC 1 Utama) from 12 to 18 September, followed by Penang (GSC Gurney Plaza) from 19 to 22 September, and Johor Bahru (GSC Paradigm Mall JB) from 26 to 29 September. The festival will also tour East Malaysia, visiting Kuching (GSC CityONE Megamall) from 10 to 13 October, and Kota Kinabalu (GSC Suria Sabah) from 17 to 20 October. All films will be presented in Japanese with English subtitles, with tickets priced at RM 10.00, except for A Samurai in Time, which will be sold at prevailing ticket prices There will also be a special IMAX screening of Godzilla Minus One at AURUM, The Exchange TRX with tickets priced at RM 50.00.
